About Bastiane’s Arrow

Bastiane’s Arrow is a small, occasional magazine built around a single pairing: one essay, one mix, published together. The writing exists to be read with the songs running underneath it, and the songs exist because, most of the time, they say the part the essay can’t.

There’s no algorithm here, no recommendation engine deciding what you hear next. Every playlist is sequenced by hand, in an order that’s meant to be listened to start to finish, the way a record used to ask you to sit with it rather than skip through it. The essays are written the same way — as a whole, not a feed.

New issues arrive when there’s something worth saying, not on a schedule. Some are about a specific song or artist; most are about whatever the mix was actually for — a breakup, a drive, a bad night’s sleep — with the playlist as evidence rather than decoration.

If you’re here, you probably already believe what this project believes: that a good playlist is a form of writing, and a good essay can be worth listening to. Thanks for reading, and for listening.
